Monday Miscellany – Annoying Symptom

Mi Sun and Dolly have been itchy too. Although the othercats have not been affected, Mi Sun and Dolly are suffering a recurrence of last year’s miliary dermatitis. Miliary dermatitis gets its name from the multitude of tiny scabs that ostensibly resemble the grain millet. It is dry, itchy and in Mi Sun and Dolly located on the top of their backs near the base of the tail, an area that is very hard for cats to groom. The vet suggested a topical medication that included steroids. I would rather avoid steroids for their known negative side effects.

Often this condition is the result of fleas but none have shown up and no other cats are suffering. This is also caused by allergies and heat. Since the temperature has dropped with the onset of more rainI am going to wait a few days to see if it diminishes. If not there are a couple of home remedies to try.
